National Championship pools released. Livestreaming confirmed.

With eight teams confirmed for Nationals, we are pleased to announce the finalized pools for our upcoming National Championship tournament, hosted in Victoria, BC on April 1 and 2, 2017.

Pool A:
Guelph Quidditch
Edmonton Aurors Quidditch Club
University of British Columbia Quidditch Club
Calgary Mavericks

Pool B:
Valhalla Quidditch
UBC Thunderbirds
SFU Quidditch
UVic Valkyries Quidditch Club

The Gameplay Department has provided these notes regarding the organization of the Nationals Pools:

These pools were based on the results of both Eastern and Western Regionals, and were organized so as to maximize team diversity in each pool. Our two attending eastern teams were placed in opposite pools, and the UBC Thunderbirds, as the top ranked western team, was placed in the same pool as the lower ranked eastern team. The University of British Columbia Quidditch Club was placed in Pool A to avoid having them in the UBC’s Thunderbirds pool, as they are affiliate teams. Finally, the Calgary Mavericks were placed in pool A in order to avoid having the 2nd, 4th, and 6th ranked western teams in the same pool, i.e. the three lower ranked teams compared to their Pool B counterparts.

The tournament schedule is still being finalized, and is expected to follow a format similar to the 2016 Regional tournaments, where pools were altered during pool play.

Quidditch Canada is also excited to confirm that our partnership with SportsCanada.TV will be renewed for our upcoming National Championship. 12 games will be livestreamed with commentary over the course of the weekend. The livestream will be accessible throughout the weekend at sportscanada.tv/quidditchcanada.
