As was announced at the Eastern Regional Championship closing ceremonies in Oshawa, Ontario, on Nov 12, 2017, Events Director Sachin Kotecha will be transitioning out of his role after serving as a Director for two and a half years. Sachin will remain as a Quidditch Canada volunteer holding the two new roles of Bidding and Tournament Managers within the Events Department.

Sachin joined Quidditch Canada as an Events Coordinator while still serving as the President of the Waterloo Quidditch Program in the 2015-16 Season, and shortly thereafter joined board as Events Director. Notably, over the past two and a half years Sachin led the creation of the Tournament Director Manual, implemented policies to standardize tournaments across Canada, and implemented Quidditch Canada’s event bidding cycle. He has forged connections with cities across the country that will help the sport’s continued growth, and under his supervision, the 2016/17 Western Championship was selected as the runner-up for the City of Surrey’s inaugural Sport in the City Award.

“Serving as Events Director has been a wonderful experience, but I’m looking forward to focusing my energy in a more specific capacity in two smaller roles. As Tournament Manager I will be able to better assist teams run their tournaments, and as Bidding Manager I will continue to run our bidding cycle,” says Sachin.

Sachin’s commitment to Quidditch Canada has improved the quality of our events year after year. Though his dedication, hard work, and wry sense of humour will be sorely missed at the director level, I am looking forward to continuing to work alongside him at Quidditch Canada in his various other capacities. Thank you for your two and half years of directorship!
