Executive Director Transition

Ahead of the start of the 2024-2025 season, Yara Kodershah will be stepping down as Executive Director of Quadball Canada. We are excited to announce that Soleil Heaney, formerly Events Director, has been appointed to the position.

After five incredible years, Yara Kodershah is stepping down as the Executive Director of Quadball Canada. Since 2019, Yara has been a driving force behind our organization, guiding us through a global pandemic and leading us through a significant name change. Before becoming Executive Director, Yara played a pivotal role as the Director of Marketing and Communications, shaping the way we connect with our community. Yara, we cannot thank you enough for your dedication, leadership, and passion for advancing our sport. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

As Quadball Canada celebrates its 10 year anniversary, so too does Soleil Heaney celebrate 10 years of involvement with our sport. Joining the community first as a player with University of Valkyries Quidditch Club, she has held a wide array of leadership roles across a number of university and club teams. As a talented athlete, she has represented our sport at its highest levels on our National Team, and has had broad exposure to the wide range of programming and critical development pathways for quadball in Canada.

Joining the Quadball Canada volunteer team in 2020 as an Events Coordinator, Soleil was critical in ensuring the safe return to in-person play following the COVID-19 lockdowns. In 2022, she took on the Events Director portfolio, and oversaw the return of our National Championship, which was held in Edmonton, AB. As the Senior Coordinator for Membership Engagement with B.C. Soccer, Soleil engaged heavily in partnership building, policy work, and organizational development. She has had broad exposure to the Canadian sport context as a consultant, with extensive experience elevating and strengthening the governance frameworks of sports organizations in Canada. Soleil brings fresh perspective and vision to this critical leadership role, and is committed to building membership and engagement within our organization.

“Volunteering with Quadball Canada has been a life changing privilege and honour. What I have contributed over the past near-decade to this sport, I gained back tenfold in experience, learning, and community. I am grateful to all of the players, partners, and volunteers that have shaped our growth and brought our organization’s values to life on the pitch. Soleil brings exceptional leadership, creative vision, and foundational expertise in sport management. I have no doubt that her passion for quadball will elevate our sport and bring us into a new era.” – Yara Kodershah.

Quadball Canada has been fortunate to have incredible volunteers like Yara to guide us through some tough years and set us on a path to rebuilding our sport. Thanks to them and the many volunteers like them, quadball in Canada is growing again and is ready to adopt new ideas to make our sport and community better than ever! Excited to see the future that this transition holds for our organization. ” -Alex Naftel, Chair, Board of Directors

I have loved volunteering with Quadball Canada over the past few years and I am excited to transition into the role of Executive Director and to lead the organization to promote the growth and success of this sport. I look forward to collaborating with members across the country to elevate our organization for years to come.” – Soleil Heaney
