Anti-Oppression in Sport: Resource Page

As part of our ongoing commitment to anti-racism and anti-oppression (AR/AO), and in an effort to integrate an ongoing practice of decolonization into our organization, Quidditch Canada is making publicly available a database of resources to further disseminate this information and integrate the practice of into our community.

What do we mean by anti-oppression?
Anti-oppression is the intentional practice of recognizing how our structures, systems, and institutions create power imbalances. These power imbalances result in certain groups of people experiencing harm, violence, or being silenced or otherwise marginalized. We are constantly looking to mitigate the effects of oppression and create meaningful opportunities for everyone to access and participate in.

What do we mean by decolonization:
Decolonization is an ongoing process of restoring Indigenous world views, cultures, and traditional ways. Through decolonization, “Canadian” interpretations of history and contemporary Indigenous issues are replaced with Indigenous perspectives. Decolonization requires non-Indigenous people living in Canada to learn and accept the reality of Canada’s colonial history, understand how Canada has harmed and continues to harm Indigenous people, and create space and supports for Indigenous Peoples to reclaim what has been taken from them.

The resources are placed into categories, but we recognize that some may overlap and could be classified under multiple categories.

Our thanks to Jessalynn Tsang, who supported the aggregation of these resources.
