Become a Referee

Referees are essential to the sport of quidditch, ensuring the safety and fairness of all those participating in what can be a highly complex and fast-paced game.

Quidditch Canada recognizes that referees offer an indispensable service to the sport, and mandates that on-pitch officials who have completed our Certification Program receive a small honorarium for every official game officiated. In order to become certified by Quidditch Canada, you’ll need to register as a member of Quidditch Canada, gain an in-depth understanding of the rules, and pass the applicable tests. As shown in the table below, there are different types of referees, and thus, corresponding levels of certification.

Although certification is not available for Goal Referees, Scorekeepers, and Timekeepers, they play an integral role in recording accurate scores, times, and other important match information. Resources on how to perform the responsibilities of these positions are available for those interested in carrying out the roles. Quidditch Canada encourages all current or aspiring referees to attend online and in-person training workshops, to contribute and welcome feedback, and to gain officiating experience whenever possible at scrimmages and competitions.

Quadball Canada was created July 1st 2014 to lead, promote and advance the sport of quadball in Canada.
