National Team

National Team Director

POSITION SUMMARY

The National Team Director (NTD) is responsible for overseeing the Quidditch Canada National Team program to recruit and train our highest level athletes. The NTD, alongside the National Team Head Coach and Manager, oversees the activities of the National Team to support National Team policy development, recruitment and selection, administration, and conflict resolution. This position is a senior-level volunteer role, and is a member of our operational leadership team. The NTD oversees the management of the National Team Head Coach and Manager, and reports to the Executive Director. 

The NTD has a commitment to upholding the values and principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. Specifically, the Volunteer Director considers issues of access, anti-racism and anti-oppression, gender-justice, Indigenous reconciliation and acknowledgment, anti-poverty, and other issues of inequity as such issues relate to national team administration

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following list of responsibilities is not exhaustive: 

  • Support the activities of the National Team Head Coach and Manager
  • Lead on the recruitment of additional National Team volunteers, as appropriate
  • Ensure that all Team Canada activities align with the policies, visions, and mandates of Quidditch Canada as set forth by the Executive Director and Board of Directors
  • Establish and evaluate the National Team program vision
  • Maintain and update relevant National Team policies and procedures following Quidditch Canada guidelines
  • Lead on the operational administration of the National Team, including (as needed) logistics, merchandising, 
  • Address any conflicts or conflicts of interest associated with Team Canada and the Team Canada process in an impartial and efficient manner
  • Stay informed of International Quidditch Association policy and rulebook changes to ensure that the National Team program is prepared to compete internationally
  • Participate in regular executive meetings and work in conjunction with other executives to execute the overall vision for Quidditch Canada
  • Regularly report on Team Canada activities to the Executive Director or Board of Directors, as required
  • Attract and retain corporate partners for Team Canada

ABOUT YOU

  • You are a skilled verbal and written communicator
  • You have experience with peer leadership; you can make decisions that support people compassionately and impartially
  • You are a systems thinker – you can look at a small piece and understand how it fits into the larger context.
  • You have some experience working or volunteering with National Sports Organizations, or have experience as a high-level athlete of any sport
  • You’re know how to build organizational relationships to support programs, such as sponsorships, funding partners, corporate partners, etc.
  • You have strong project management skills, and can use project management frameworks to support reaching strategic objectives.

National Team Head Coach

POSITION SUMMARY
The National Team Head Coach will work closely with the National Team Director and assistant coaches to lead Team Canada to Gold in World Cup 2025. They will be responsible for developing, implementing, and selecting a successful Standing National Team at the highest and most competitive level of play.  Accordingly, they will also have the ability to hire a set of assistants (For example: assistant coaches, professional athletic trainers, positional captains, scouts, evaluators, and videographers). This position is a senior-level volunteer role. 

The Head Coach must have a demonstrated commitment to ethics and the principles of safe sport. Specifically, the Head Coach must considers issues of access, anti-racism and anti-oppression, gender-justice, and other issues of inequity as such issues relate to national competition. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following list of responsibilities is not exhaustive: 

    • Establish the strategies, practices, training camp schedules for the Standing National Team
    • Continually research and develop strategy improvements to ensure Team Canada is on the cutting edge of quadball gameplay
    • Create Team Canada’s on-pitch goals and strategies
    • Maintain open and transparent communications with all members of the team in a timely fashion
    • Work closely with the National Team Director and National Team Assistant Coaches
    • Provide athletes with adequate feedback from training camps, practices, and other quadball related events
    • Plan and run open practices and training camps  in both the eastern and western regions throughout 2024 and 2025. Evaluate and record the effectiveness of individual, unit and team performances
    • Establish standards of player selection for the standing team in line with our selection policies. 
    • Supervise and hire (with the assistance of the National Team Director) any supportive assistant positions. Please note that the following positions are subject to change depending on the needs of the staff and athletes: 
      • Assistant Coach(es) 
      • Athletic Trainer 
      • Positional Captains (positional captains for training or the final travelling roster with the assistance of the National Team Coordinator, other coaches, and athletes. Must be a player)
      • Scouts / Evaluators (evaluate athletes at selection camps, National and Regional Championships, tournaments, and practices. Cannot be trying out for Team Canada 2016-2018)
      • Film Coordinators / Videographers (film practices and games, prepare footage for coach, scout, and athlete analysis

National Team Assistant Coach

POSITION SUMMARY
The National Team Assistant Coach will work closely with the National Team Head Coach and associated staff to lead Team Canada to Gold in World Cup 2025. They will be responsible for developing, implementing, and selecting a successful Standing National Team at the highest and most competitive level of play. This is a non-playing, volunteer role. 

The Assistant Coach must have a demonstrated commitment to ethics and the principles of safe sport. Specifically, the Assistant Coach must consider issues of access, anti-racism and anti-oppression, gender-justice, and other issues of inequity as such issues relate to national competition. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following list of responsibilities is not exhaustive: 

  • Assist with player evaluation and the player selection process 
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and conducting practices 
  • Assist with pre-game scouting and evaluating of opponents 
  • Assist with the supervision of players on and off the field
  • Assist with the formulation of game plans, strategy, and on-field tactics 
  • Support the reinforcement of the Head Coach’s on field vision 
  • Maintain open and transparent communications with all members of the team in a timely fashion
  • Provide athletes with actionable feedback from training camps, practices, and other quadball-related events. 
  • Attend and run open practices and training camps as required/ directed by the Head Coach
  • Attend and provide coordinated bench-support with the Head Coach during international competitions.

Executive Positions

Director of the Board

Join the team that is leading the only gender-inclusive, community-based, full-contact sport played in Canada!

Quidditch Canada is actively seeking 2  individuals to join our team as a Director of the Board! Directors of the Board are responsible for leading the governance and strategy of Quidditch Canada to help determine our long-term direction and scope. Directors of the Board consider the various challenges and growth opportunities Quidditch Canada faces, and make recommendations and decisions about how our organization will move ahead in order to achieve our mission to lead, grow and promote the sport of quidditch in Canada.

Directors of the Board will be elected by Quidditch Canada’s member teams at the Annual General Meeting to be held on Sunday, February 27, 2022. Interested candidates will also undergo a preliminary interview with the current Board, so that the Board may answer any questions you have about the role, and so that the Board may learn more about what you would bring to the position. Following the preliminary screening, the board will make a candidate recommendation to our membership.

Successful candidates will serve a two-year term, ending at the Annual General Meeting taking place in the Winter of 2024. 

Key Responsibilities of the Board

For the governance responsibilities of the Board, please review section 7.6 of Quidditch Canada’s Bylaws. 

  • Set, monitor, change, or review the organization’s vision, mission, values (or equivalent), and strategic direction of Quidditch Canada
  • Uphold the organization’s commitment to anti-oppressive and inclusive governance 
  • Ensure continuity for Quidditch Canada by monitoring and ensuring its financial health
  • Oversee the hiring and performance evaluation of Quidditch Canada’s Executive Director
  • Make policies, regulations, procedures (or equivalent) to govern the management and affairs of Quidditch Canada
  • Survey and consult stakeholders regarding the direction and policies of the organization as appropriate
  • Determine the registration fees and procedures of Quidditch Canada’s membership
  • Establish any committees and be responsible for regulating the workings of those committees
  • Partake in meetings of the Board of Directors, including any General Meetings.
  • Perform any other duties from time to time as may be in the best interest of Quidditch Canada

 

About You
The following attributes are assets to any potential director.

  • You possess skills and/or competencies in any of the following areas: Business Acumen, Communications, Financial Literacy, Fund Development, Government Relations, Human Resources, Legal Knowledge, Marketing and Branding Knowledge, Negotiation Skills, Organizational Management, Policy Development, Risk Management, Stakeholder Relations
  • You have experience with non-profit management, sports management, or with the quidditch community at large
  • You are able to work within a team, and individually in a self-paced environment
  • You have prior not-for-profit or sport organization board experience
  • Fluency in a language other than English is an asset.

  • Quidditch Canada is a registered charity. Directors volunteer their time and talents freely.

Finance Department

Merchandise Assistant - Western Region

POSITION SUMMARY

The Merchandise Assistant will work with the Financial Director in implementing Quidditch Canada’s Merchandise plan for the Fall 2021 Quidditch season. The Merchandise Assistant will coordinate with Western Region teams to assist in the listing of merchandise on Quidditch Canada’s POS system.  The Merchandise Assistant is a passionate individual who will help coordinate merchandise selling at tournaments and training of volunteers.

This is a short-term, 3 month position beginning in August 2021 and ending in November, 2021.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with Western region teams to understand merchandise requirements and add team merchandise to Quidditch Canada POS system
  • Organize the delivery of Quidditch Canada merchandise to tournaments in the Western region
  • Attend Western region quidditch tournaments and coordinate the operation of a merchandise store, with an emphasis on setup
  • Help Tournament Directors organizing merchandise volunteers, with an emphasis on training volunteers
  • Assist in the organization of a merchandise store at Western Regionals tournament

 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passionate about Quidditch and its growth in Canada
  • Interest in working with merchandise and financial systems
  • Attendance at most major tournaments within the Western Region

Events Department

Provincial Events Coordinator

The Events Coordinator is primarily responsible for assisting the Events Director with the organization and operation of Quidditch Canada’s competitive, leisure, and amateur events. This is a 12-month long commitment, position reports directly to the Events Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or assist in the organization of events. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Finding and booking locations for events
    • Networking and negotiating with local tourism departments, media outlets and businesses
    • Acquiring game equipment
    • Working with teams to help them in planning and/or running events
    • Working with a graphic designer and the communications department to create event materials
    • Identifying and pursuing sponsorship opportunities and soliciting both cash and in-kind donations for the events that will have a direct impact on the bottom line
    • Coordinating travel and housing for event staff for out-of-town events
  • Lead or assist in the operation of events. Tasks may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Coordinating the on-site event environment for the team, staff and spectator experiences (e.g., communication, signage, displays, staffing)
    • Managing volunteers
    • Selling merchandise and soliciting spectator donations
    • Managing the game schedule to ensure the event runs smoothly and on schedule
    • Support non-tournament events, such as workshops
    • Collect information on the event and attendees
  • Attend Quidditch Canada events, whenever possible
  • Support events in meeting provincial and QC COVID safety protocols

Key Qualifications:

  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Interest and knowledge of the quidditch and event industry
  • Previous experience volunteering with the IQA, Quidditch Canada, or a quidditch team is an asset
  • Must have an understanding of how to successfully plan and run a tournament
  • Must have basic computer skills including working with spreadsheets and Google docs
  • Problem solving skills and deductive reasoning abilities

Gameplay Department

Gameplay Coordinator - Western Region

The Western Gameplay Coordinator is primarily responsible for assisting the Gameplay Director with the oversight and organization of gameplay within Quidditch Canada. They will be expected to actively participate and contribute to Gameplay Department meetings which will discuss proposed initiatives, events, policies, and rule changes. The Western Gameplay Coordinator will work closely with the Snitch Coordinators, Referee Coordinator, and other Gameplay Coordinators to help develop game and referee schedules for Quidditch Canada Events, and assist in running the events.

  • Work alongside the Events Department to determine tournament formats and other logistics related to gameplay for Quidditch Canada’s regional and national tournaments
  • Collaborate with the Statistics Coordinator to create and improve upon the algorithm used for Rankings
  • Collaborate with the Statistics Coordinator to obtain relevant statistics for informing rule changes
  • Take on project-based work as assigned by the Gameplay Director, including research projects, resource development, and gameplay-related planning and organization
  • Promote Gameplay Department initiatives such as referee training, coaching training and development clinics
  • Serve on Disciplinary Panel when requested
  • Contribute to Gameplay Department discussions on gameplay policies and rule changes

Qualifications:

  • Resides in Western Canada
  • Experience playing Quidditch
  • Familiarity with past and current rulebooks and Quidditch Canada gameplay policies and amendments
  • Strong desire to improve the Quidditch gameplay experience in Canada 
  • Quidditch or sports experience in a gameplay-related role, eg. Tournament Director, coach, captain etc. will be considered an asset
  • Experience with the gameplay aspects of tournament organization – format, scheduling, etc. will be considered an asset
  • Quidditch referee certification and experience will be considered an asset
  • Basic computer skills including working with spreadsheets and Google Drive

Snitch Coordinator - Western Region

The Western Snitch Coordinator works as part of the Gameplay Department and will report to the Gameplay Director. They are responsible for overseeing the training and evaluation of snitch runners, managing the snitch runner certification process, and developing training resources with a focus on western Canada. The Western Snitch Coordinator will work closely with the Gameplay Coordinators, Referee Coordinator, and other Snitch Coordinators to help develop game and snitch runner schedules for Quidditch Canada Major Events, and assist in running the events.

Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience with quidditch as a snitch runner
  • Strong knowledge of the rules, policies, and amendments pertaining to snitching and seeking
  • Quidditch or sports experience in a gameplay-related or leadership role, eg.  eg. Tournament Director, referee, coach, captain etc. will be considered an asset
  • Experience with the gameplay aspects of tournament organization – format, scheduling, etc. will be considered an asset
  • Must have basic computer skills including working with spreadsheets and Google docs

Volunteer Department

Volunteer Director

POSITION SUMMARY

The Volunteer Director helps to manage, grow, and support the volunteers that operate Quidditch Canada. They oversee recruitment, training, and retention of short and long term volunteers. This position is a senior-level volunteer role, and is a member of our operational leadership team. The Volunteer Director works closely with all other departments, and reports to the Executive Director. They may also be responsible for directly supervising other volunteers from time to time.

Specifically, the Volunteer Director considers issues of access, anti-racism and anti-oppression, gender-justice, Indigenous reconciliation and acknowledgment, anti-poverty, and other issues of inequity as such issues relate to volunteer management.

  • Oversee, monitor and develop (as necessary) comprehensive volunteer strategies, policies and practices that support Quidditch Canada’s goals and needs, and that create a diverse, respectful, welcoming and inclusive environment for all volunteers. 
  • Provide leadership, collaboration and technical assistance to the management team to support innovative strategies to successfully recruit, employ and retain a volunteer team reflective of the diversity of Quidditch Canada’s membership. 
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure hiring committees receive appropriate training and support and that processes used are effective, efficient, and free from bias.
  • Participate in selection procedures for defined roles and ensure great candidate experience.
  • Oversee processes for welcoming on boarding and effective off boarding.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and trusting relationship with volunteers
  • Innovate and manage cultural initiatives to promote collaboration, celebrate milestones, and encourage ongoing learning. Drive a culture that is inclusive, supportive, and highly collaborative.

Communications Department

Social Media Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The Social Media Coordinator position will help manage Quidditch Canada’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts. They will be primarily responsible for using these platforms to curate digital content, promote upcoming events and merchandise, and build relationships with the broader quidditch community and other sports organizations. This position reports to the communications director. The Social Media Coordinator has a commitment to upholding the values and principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following list of responsibilities is not exhaustive: 

  • Monitor traffic and mentions on all social media platforms
  • Communicate scheduled announcements and releases via social media 
  • Create original video, graphical, and written content for social platforms in coordination with the rest of the Communications team
  • Adapt our written content and voice for social platforms, and collaborate with our writers and other members of the communications team to develop new stories and build the brand
  • Promote membership, merchandise, and other Canadian quidditch events using paid and unpaid campaigns
  • Contribute to live coverage of events using social media platforms
  • Ensure we have a large variety of representation (ethnicities, races, genders, sexual orientations etc.) in all of our digital content.
  • Stimulate discussions and engagement where appropriate
  • Other duties as prescribed by the Communications Director and Assistant Communications Director


KEY QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are considered to be an asset: 

  • Extensive knowledge of the workings of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
  • Basic photography and videography skills
  • Familiarity with Canva or other browser-based design platforms 
  • Ability to speak/write in French
  • Strong knowledge and/or interest in the sport of quidditch

Merchandising Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY
The Merchandising Coordinator is responsible for planning Quidditch Canada merchandise releases and our merchandise store, working with our merchandise partner VC Ultimate. This position works closely with our contact from VC Ultimate and reports our Communications Director and Assistant Communications Director. The Merchandising Coordinator has a commitment to upholding the values and principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The following list of responsibilities is not exhaustive: 

  • Develops merchandise distribution strategies and sales at Quidditch Canada events
  • Develops schedule and timeline for merchandise release dates 
  • Documents and analyses data from merchandise sales and ensures regular commission payments from VC Ultimate
  • Aids in ensuring the quality and design of merchandise items 
  • Collaborates with VC Ultimate, the Quidditch Canada communications department as well as other relevant departments. Examples include but are not limited to: 
  • Coordinating with the events department for event specific merchandise 
  • Coordinating with the gameplay department in regards to any and all equipment that we sell in our store.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
The following qualifications are considered to be an asset: 

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Extensive organization skills and timeliness
  • A background in marketing, merchandise or clothing design is a valuable asset
  • Strong knowledge and/or interest in the sport of quidditch
